13 Fat Quarters from “Lucy’s Collection” by Jennifer Chiaverini. 100% cotton woven fabric from Red Rooster Fabrics. Limited Quantities Available. Lucy’s Collection is the fabric used in “Harriet’s Journey,” a 100-block sampler featured in Jennifer’s new pattern book from C&T Publishing, Harriet’s Journey from Elm Creek Quilts (December 2020).
Lucy’s Collection, designed by New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Chiaverini, is named for a main character and narrator in her 2016 historical novel, Fates and Traitors. Lucy Lambert Hale, a senator’s daughter and Washington DC society belle, was secretly engaged to the popular stage actor John Wilkes Booth. Her photo was found in Booth’s pocket after he was shot by Federal troops 12 days after he assassinated President Abraham Lincoln.
Lucy’s Collection reflects the fabric designs and colors typically found in quiltmaking and dress goods available in the Civil War era. This collection of reproduction prints features florals, trailing vines, and foulards with fancy picotage grounds that are ideal for traditional pieced basket, Log Cabin, Irish Chain, and Flying Geese quilts. There’s a stripe that’s great for sashings and borders for quilts to cover four-poster beds, and an elegant moiré that offers a creamy ground for Baltimore-style appliqué quilts. Lucy’s Collection is also perfect for home décor projects including bedskirts and pillow shams, as well as wearables, totes, and old-fashioned sewing pockets and rolls. A traditional red and green pieced basket quilt pattern designed by Laura Blanchard to showcase Lucy’s Collection will be free to download at www.redroosterfabrics.com.
